Near perfect racing weather, combined with that Vancouver Island hospitality, made Courtney BC the ideal location for the 2014 BC Youth Road and Time Trial Championships. 75 of BC’s top youth racers set the scene for what was to be some incredible racing on the rural roads in this scenic coastal community, hosted by the Comox Valley Cycle Club.
The Saturday morning road race saw strong groups of young riders race the challenging 9 km circuit. The up-hill finish had the young riders showcase their skill and fitness as they battled hard for the finish line. The large gathering of spectators were treated to a special day of entertaining racing.
The Time Trial took place Sunday morning, just a short distance north of the road race. The TT course followed the same 16 km circuit which was used for the 2013 BC Youth Road Championships. All the youth competed at the 16 km distance with the exception of the U19 boys, which raced 2 laps of the course for a total of 32 km. The fastest girl’s time went to the home town racer Gillian Ellsay, Trail Bikes, in a time of 14:52, while the fastest boy was Joel Taylor, Trek Red Truck, who did the course in 44:49.
Cycling BC would like to thank the Comox Valley Cycling club and all its volunteers and community supporters for putting on a great BC Youth Road and TT Championships. We would also like to thank the amazing support from the youth cycling clubs and teams for all their hard work in promoting cycling and helping to make these events a success.
