Registration for the 6th annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria is now open. Also known as a “gran fondo”, the Tour de Victoria is a non-competitive, mass participation ride that welcomes riders of all ages and abilities from around the world. The ride features the world-class cycling routes and breathtaking scenery that Victoria, British Columbia, has to offer. One of the main highlights of the Tour is the fact that riders get to enjoy a car free lane and traffic controlled intersections for the majority of the ride. This, combined with great support en route, and a festival at the finish line, makes for a great day on the bike in Victoria.
The 2016 ride features four distances, offering opportunities for riders of all ages and fitness levels to take part:
- Harbour Air Epic – 140km for the experienced cyclist
- Pro City Legend – 90km for the cycling enthusiast
- Challenge – 45km for the entry-level cyclist
- Kids Ride!
Here’s what Ryder Hesjedal has to say about the ride:
I grew up training on the roads of Greater Victoria, but to ride them as part of the Tour is a unique and amazing experience. To have the roads traffic free for the day, to have hundreds of volunteers supporting the ride, and to ride with thousands of other cyclists–there’s no better way to discover Victoria!
Then, to top the day off with the festival finish and leading the kids ride around the legislative buildings, the 2015 Tour de Victoria was a memorable experience. I can’t wait to ride with everyone on August 21st 2016!
Riders can register now to take advantage of Super Early Bird pricing. The Tour de Victoria also continues to support youth cycling by offering riders aged 18 and under a special rate of $50 for the ride!
