It was a great weekend of racing at the Accenture BC Elite and Master Road and Time Trail Championships held on May 28 and 29 in the Greater Vancouver region of BC.
The BC Time Trial Championships took place on the flat, rural roads of Langley, running alongside the Fraser River. Torrential rains and winds presented an even greater challenge for some of BC’s top time trial specialists.
The Elite Women’s category saw very close finish for the title. In the Women’s race, Morgan Cabot, Glotman Simpson Cycling Club edged out Sara Bergen, Trek Red Truck pb Mosaic Homes, by 8 seconds to take her second consecutive championship win, with Gillian Ellsay, Trek Red Truck pb Mosaic Homes rounding out the top three.
In the men’s race, Jack Burke, H&R Block Pro Cycling took the win ahead of 2015 champion Curtis Dearden of Russ Hayes/Accent Inns pb Champion Systems with Kyle Buckosky Trek Red Truck pb Mosaic Homes taking third.
There was a strong field of Master and Para racers out for the championship weekend. Congratulation goes to the following winners for the Time Trial Championship:
- Para-Cycling – Attila Avsar
- Master A Women – Melanie Levesque, Glotman Simpson Cycling Club; Julie van Veelen, Tripleshot Cycling Club
- Master B Women – Chantal Lauzon, Steed Cycles
- Master C Women – Anna Bonga
- Master D Women – Barb Morris, Escape Velocity pb Fortius
- Master A Men – Vincent Marcotte, Langois Brown Racing

The BC Championship road race took place in Abbotsford on a course worthy of a championship race.
The Elite Women’s race came down to a battle between the two largest teams, Trek Red Truck pb Mosaic Homes and Glotman Simpson Cycling Club. Trek Red Truck rider Sara Bergen initiated an early break which Glotman Simpson’s Michelle Shaeffer joined in on. And just when you think it was a two person race, Bergen’s teammate Denise Ramsden bridged to the duo to help Bergen secure the victory, with Ramsen taking second and Shaeffer third.
Unlike the women’s race, the Elite Men’s edition didn’t allow any breaks to get away, and in the final sprint it was Isaac LeBlanc, Russ Hayes/Accent Inn’s pb Champion Systems who powered away for the victory with Kyle Buckosky Trek Red Truck pb Mosaic Homes taking second place and his second medal of the weekend, and Nigel Kinney, Langois Brown Racing taking third.
A record number of Master riders competed in this year’s road race. The BC Champions are:
- Master B Women – Deanna Thomson, Pender Racing
- Master C Women – Anna Bonga
- Master D Women – Barb Morris, Escape Velocity pb Fortius
- Master A Men – Steve Savage, Steed Cycles
- Master B Men – Mark Sherman, Langois Brown Racing
- Master C Men – Paul Taylor, Island Racing Club pb Robert Cameron
- Master D Men – Chris Cameron, Mid Island Velo Association
- Master E Men – David Wilkins
