Junior and U17 riders joined coach Richard Wooles for the Junior Road Nationals selection camp, May 6th and 7th. This was the last chance for riders to make the Cycling BC Junior team heading to Ottawa for Canadian Road Championships at the end of June.
Coaches Jeff Ain, Ben Chaddock, Wes Ochitwa, and Argon 18’s Johnny Halliday, joined the group to help out throughout the weekend. Two big days of riding included hill repeats on Mount Seymour and endurance riding through the British Properties on Saturday. On Sunday, the group went for a long endurance ride, with coaching on paceline, pacing, proper nutrition, cadence, gear choice, and successful breakaway riding.
“It’s great to see so many young U17 ridings trying out to make the team,” said coach Richard Wooles, “the clubs are doing a great job in developing riders–it’s great to see such a high level.”
Successful rider will be heading with the team to Canadian Road Championships in Ottawa and Gatineau, June 24 -28, to test themselves against the other best young road cyclists from throughout Canada.
