Cycling BC and BC’s youth clubs are very happy to announce the second annual Teams of BC series of track camps for 2016-2017. We are especially pleased to announce that Cycling BC has agreed to increase their support to the camps; they will be covering the track rental, board room rental for homework sessions, and providing administrative support.
“Cycling BC is proud to support the Teams of BC camps initiative with track rental and administrative coordination. Cycling BC looks forward to working with the youth clubs to introduce riders to track, training with teams, and sees this as a great system to develop track racing, and prepare riders to provincial teams at u19 and u23.”
– Tara Mowat, Cycling BC High Performance Coordinator
Last year this camp series lead to more riders becoming interested in track, with the nice side effect of more medals at National Championships. For coaches, this is a great developmental opportunity, with club and provincial coaches sharing the coaching duties.
The camps are intended as a shared developmental program, aimed at riders becoming more committed to track, and to prepare for National Track Championships/Junior Worlds Trials in Milton, March 30 – April 2nd. Every accepted rider will be accommodated in team event training, with a coach and team performance objectives, through to nationals if they want. Riders DO NOT need to commit to attending Nationals. That said, if the camps fill up, priority will go to riders committing to the full series of camps. Our view is that a focus on teammates and training together at the camps will motivate riders to train between camps, whether for personal development, or to perform in March.
This year there is a new opportunity to decide if you’re ready for Nationals, by attending the Western Canadian Track Championships in Burnaby in February 24th to 26th.
Riders should be U17 or U19, with second year U15 riders if space allows.
The camp fee is $200. This includes: coaching, Burnaby track rental for 4 x 2 hours sessions over two days, in December, January, February and March. The fee includes a billet with a Vancouver area riders family, transportation to and from the track with the billet family, and for island riders, a ferry shuttle Thursday morning and Friday evening. Special presentations and seminars to be announced based on athletes feedback. To register please fill out the registration form here.
