Congratulations to all the BC riders that took part in the 2019 Elite/Masters Canadian Track Cycling Championships at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario from September 26-28, 2019.
Over 140 athletes from across the country took part in the national championships to compete for the coveted maple leaf jersey and the title of Canadian National Champion.
BC riders showed some impressive results including individual gold-medal winning performances from Steph Roorda who won the Elite Women’s Omnium and Georgia Simmerling who won the Women’s Pursuit. Vancouver’s Amiel Flett-Brown took the bronze medal in the Elite Men’s Omnium, Aidan Caves won bronze in the Elite Men’s Time Trial, and Jay Lamoureux came 2nd in the Men’s Pursuit.
In Masters Racing, Keith Bruneau of North Vancouver, finished 2nd in the Master B Men’s Time Trial, Alex Hui from Victoria finished 3rd in the Master A Men’s Scratch Race, and Hans Loeffelhelz of North Vancouver came 3rd in the Master B Men’s Keirin Final. Masters Men riders John Mayr from New Westminster and John Van Der Vliet from Courtenay were also among the top 10 in their individual categories in the TT.
The team events saw BC athletes win medals on composite teams including Erin Attwell of Victoria who won gold in the Elite Women Team Pursuit, while Steph Roorda, Maggie Coles-Lyster, and Georgia Simmerling won silver on their composite team in the same event. The Men’s Team Pursuit Composite2 team which included Jay Lamoureux and Aidan Caves won gold. Composite3 team consisting of Vancouver’s Meghan Grant and teammate Kate O’brien won the bronze in the women’s Team Sprint while Men’s Team Sprint Composite3 team of Joel Achambaut, Robert Gooch, and Guy McClintock took the silver medal. In Master Men’s Team Sprint, the BC team of Alex Hui, Keith Bruneau, and Hans Loeffelholz finished in 3rd place. In the Madison events, Steph Roorda teamed up with Miriam Brouwer to win gold in the Elite Women’s race while Ethan Ogrodniczuk and John Willcox won silver for BC in the Elite Men’s race.
