Test of Metal was the host race for the Cycling BC Youth XC Race Series #2 held on June 14. Twenty-four young racers, ranging from U13 to U19, came to challenge the shorter, modified course in the mountain bike mecca of Squamish, BC.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the way this series is unfolding. The positive partnership between Cycling BC and the Test of Metal group of races, along with the huge interest from youth riders is making this racing initiative a huge success,” said Barry Lyster, Cycling BC Race Coordinator.
Local racer Rhys Verner (Team Squamish) was the top U19 boy while Kelsey MacDonald (Local Ride Racing) was top U19 Girl. In the U17 category, Sean Fincham (Team Squamish) was the first boy across the line while Emily Hanford (Different Bikes) was the first U17 girl. The U15 category, which allowed 13 year old racers for the first time, saw Holden Jones (Team Squamish) take first place for the boys while Laura Holt was the top girl.
Next up in the series will be Gear Jammer on July 20th. To register go to www.testofmetal.com.
