Returning from spring break, iRide coaches rolled into the spring calendar with a 2nd flock of bicycles in tow. Thirty new bicycles joined the fleet with a mix of 14.5″ and 13.5″ Norco Indie Hybrids and 24″ wheel Norco Glide bicycles. Sporting flash green and rockstar red respectively, this fleet has been activated to meet the demands of iRide events in the Lower Mainland. Of course more bicycles require more helmets and a set of Giro Raze helmets complete the iRide kit. If you like the fleet’s new colors, tell us in a tweet using our new handle @cycling_bc.
School events had a soggy start to the week and Lower Mainland coaches worked between indoor gym events and outdoor sessions on school gravel soccer pitches. Originally hesitant for his first soggy outdoor session, Wes Ochitwa said “I could believe how much fun it was. I was worried the students were going to get cold so I reduced the discussion time and kept the kids moving constantly. As a result, the students built momentum quickly; I think it was my most effective iRide session this year!”.
Julian Base went for an indoor gym session and included a collection of fun games, including a tuck and roll practice using a big gym matt. The students really enjoyed this one! Other highlights included the chicken run, a straight-line test using a large set of rubber chicken’s found in the school store room. Every iRide session truly is unique!
Although iRide’s indoor field trips have now come to a close, we’re happy to announce that the pilot program worked well and we are now taking requests for indoor trips starting Nov. 1st. Please contact Ben Chaddock via email to start the booking process.
