When independent graphic designer, Solveig Stoeb of Soley Design, came up with the design for Cycling BC’s new team kit it was an amalgamation of her creativity, a love of cycling, and the place she now calls home. Cycling BC had the chance to sit with Solveig and asked her to share her creative process and inspiration for the design.
“When I started to create the new team kit for Cycling BC, I looked to the colour palette of the flag of British Columbia for inspiration and decided to use red as the base color for this year’s kit – a big shift away from the predominantly blue kit of past years,” says Stoeb who is also a road cyclist and often races when she’s not busy coming up with creative designs for her clients or participating in other sports.
“The red is symbolic of BC’s heritage – strong, prominent, commands attention, and underlines the power + strength to push athletes to their limits.
The blue represents the ocean + mountains, and yellow for the warm sun.
The retro feel, the coastline, and the colours of Cycling BC’s team kit all came together to make BC’s athletes the ones to watch in the peloton in 2018.”
The bold jersey looks great on the podium and our targeted athletes are proud to rock the red.
The three colours of the BC flag come across the new kit as a three-stripe graphical element, like speed lines, starting from the bib calf, over the back pockets to the front + back of the jersey where the lines get wider and the edges form the iconic BC coastline. The Cycling BC logo is embedded on the front, back, and sleeves of the jersey, making it visible from any angle. Logos of Cycling BC’s sponsors are tastefully displayed across the front and back of the jersey and on the bib shorts.
The design is very clean and clear, making our athletes look and feel good on their bikes and atop podiums this year.
Where will you see the team kit? Cycling BC athletes wear the team kit when racing for Cycling BC, on team group rides, and at applicable podium award presentations. Sponsors and partners may also be seen sporting the new kit when acting as ambassadors of Cycling BC.
