The results are in. The winners of the School of Hard Knox pb ChainLine Cycle 2019 BC Cyclo-cross Provincial Championships were crowned this past Sunday, November 10th at Knox Mountain Park, just north of downtown Kelowna. Over 150 riders from all across the province showed up to the races on a beautiful sunny Okanagan day.
The Elite Men’s provincial championship title was won by Craig Richey (Easton – Giant p/b Transitions Life Care) of North Vancouver making him a five-time BC CX Champion. Nicholas Kupiak (Naked Factory Racing) of Vancouver came in second, followed by Evan Russell (TaG Cycling Race Team) from Mill Bay in third place.
Fresh off a bronze medal performance at the Canadian National CX championships a week earlier, Coquitlam’s Sandra Waclter (Liv Racing) took the Elite Women’s provincial championship title while Vancouver’s Anne Ouellet (Fluvog’s Crit Nasty) finished second, and Helena Broomham (Ricky Bobby) of Kelowna in third.
Leif Rodgers (Cannondale) of Port Moody who also competed at the national cyclo-cross championships in Peterborough, Ontario last weekend won the BC Provincial title in the Junior Men’s category beating out hometown racers Emmett Hancock (SRAM/WTB/Afton) and Erik Haaheim. Lily Ujfalusi won the Junior Women’s category ahead of Isla Walker (Tripleshot) from Victoria in second, and Kaelen Coles-Lyster of Maple Ridge in third.
Other 2019 Masters Provincial CX Championships categories included various masters’ age categories, as well as men’s and women’s U17, U15, and U13.
