Western Canada Summer Games MTB Skills Camp Recap

After this weekend’s second selection race for the Western Canada Summer Games team, athletes had an opportunity to meet up with BC superstars, Sandra Walter and Catharine Pendrel, to talk about racing and training.  After the team finished up with the podium riders hit the Sunshine Coast trails for a few hours of exploring before heading back to Up the Creek Backpackers Inn in Roberts Creek for some much-needed rest and recovery.

On Sunday, we discussed and began to prepare our own pre race routines to be put to use for the WCSG.   We also practiced starts and did Tabata-style intervals while riding up to the trailhead.  Before lunch we did gave our legs a little rest from the intervals by doing some core strengthening and stretching with partners.  After a scenic lunch, we hit the road back up to Highway102 which popped us out right at the Ferry Terminal.

All in all we had a very successful camp.  It was great to see the motivation and determination of some of the road athletes vying for a spot on the multi-discipline team heading to the Western Canada Summer Games in Wood Buffalo, AB, August 7th-11th.
