From Bear Mountain to Fernie and everywhere in between, the BC Cup Race Series presented by Cobotix is back for 2020 and will give riders an opportunity to participate in a series of road, downhill, and cross country mountain bike races all season long.
The BC Cup p/b Cobotix will continue to build on last year’s competitive nature of racing where riders tested their fitness and racing ability throughout the season, aiming to amass the most points in order to claim the coveted BC Cup winner’s jersey. Last year’s BC Cup had riders keeping a close eye on the series rankings after each race to see whose names would rise to the top of the list. The overall BC Cup series winners were recognized and celebrated at the Cycling BC season wrap-up party in the fall – an awesome way to end the season and enjoy the camaraderie of the cycling community.
The 2020 BC Cup Road Series p/b Cobotix will hit the road starting with a favourite among climbers, the EV Spring Classic – Snake Road Race in historic Fort Langley on March 22nd. The steep grades of Snake Hill were absent from the 2019 race calendar but will be back in 2020 to test racers’ early season legs. A total of 13 races make up the BC Cup road series this year including the PoCo Grand Prix on July 17th during BC Superweek. With many summer kilometres logged and riders getting fitter, the BC Cup road series will conclude with a hill climb on August 16th at the Mt. Seymour Challenge where the series winner will be decided.

The Downhill mountain bike series goes nine races deep in 2020 starting on BC’s Sunshine Coast at the Coast Gravity Park on May 3rd and making stops throughout the summer at some of the province’s most stunning mountain resorts including, Panorama, Whistler, Sun Peaks, Silverstar, Fernie, Big White and ending with the Steve Smith Memorial at Mt. Washington on August 30th. “Our goal for 2020 was to prolong the downhill season as well as introduce more diversity to the course offerings,” said Cory Ostertag, Cycling BC’s Membership and Event Service Manager. “With the introduction of Coast Gravity Park’s new downhill race track we are able to start the BC season earlier. We will also see a new ‘blue’ course featured at Panorama in July making downhill racing more inclusive for new racers.”

Four races will make up the BC Cup XC Series this year including the Bear Mountain Canada Cup on March 28th, the Coaster 50 in Sechelt on May 2nd, Junkyard Dog BC XCO Provincial Championships in Surrey on May 17th, and concluding with the Whistler Canada Cup on June 20th. Cycling BC will no longer host a dedicated marathon race series but will include marathon events in the XC BC Cup. Racers going to the Sunshine Coast for the Coaster will be able to choose between the short course and the legendary 50km course and both options will count towards BC Cup point accumulation.
