Updates to Cycling BC SafeSport and Coach Excellence (SSCE) Policy

At Cycling BC, we believe that better coaches equal more kids on bikes. To help grow our sport, protect participants, encourage learning, produce more competitive results at competitions, develop clear sustainable pathways to coach education & careers, and elevate the value of coaches in our communities, Cycling BC is continuing to introduce incremental updates to our SafeSport and Coach Excellence (SSCE) Policy ahead of the 2023 season.

While there are no significant structural changes to the SSCE policy in this update, Cycling BC will begin to enforce the policy using our new Coach Management System which is now integrated with our Cycling BC Membership database via CCN.

We recognize that the policy may have immediate implications for individuals and organizations, and we are here to help you navigate any challenges you encounter along the way. For example, we are open to offering additional subsidies and funding educational opportunities for existing club and performance-cycling coaches. Cycling BC is dedicated to helping remove barriers for coaches passionate about helping others and achieving certification. Additional funds and grants may become available in the coming months to reduce costs further. Please contact us to discuss any challenges for your organization so that we can help identify any potential solutions ahead of the 2023 season.

Updates to Safe Sport and Coach Excellence Policy are summarized below.

  • UCI Technical License

    • Cycling BC requires all ride leaders, instructors, trainers, mentors, managers, coaches, commissaires, and other staff hold a UCI Technical license for the current calendar year to access Cycling BC’s general liability coverage during registered activities.
  • Cycling BC Leadership Certificate

    • Cycling BC requires all leaders operating under Cycling BC’s insurance coverage to attain and maintain an accreditation level matching the cyclists under their care.
  • Policy Enforcement

    • Cycling BC members and affiliated clubs in compliance are showcased on the Cycling BC Coach Registry and Club/Teams webpage respectively.
    • Individuals, clubs, and teams not in compliance will be notified and responsible for achieving compliance within a specified time period.
