This past weekend Tremblant hosted the second round of the XC Canada Cup and the first round of the DH Canada Cup. The XC team took the start line under cool temperatures and overcast skies, a nice change from the +32 weather the days prior. The 5.5km track cruised through the village, followed by a sustained climb up a fire road, ducking in and out of some singletrack and grassy ski runs, before dumping into the Tremblant forest where roots, rocks, and hub deep puddles kept you on your toes.
Carter Woods had this to say about that the XC track:
The single track climb was a great addition to the track this year as an alternative to the road, making it a bit more technical. It was also a blast racing through the village by the shops, restaurant patios and the 100’s of spectators out cheering us on.
The DH race kicked off under some rain filled clouds – the BC riders were feeling right at home with the slop and muck under their tires. The DH track meandered through grassy, bouldered ski runs and single track packed off camber roots, jumps, drops and plenty of slick rocks waiting to take you out. Blake Bunting and Jacob Stefiuk powered through taking 1st and 2nd respectively in the Junior Men’s category.
Overall, it was an incredible weekend for BC, walking away with 5 medals. Two BC riders are currently rocking the Canada Cup leaders jersey, Evan Guthrie in Elite Men and Holden Jones in the Junior men. Stay tuned for more as the XC riders head to Baie St. Paul for round 3 of the Canada Cup. More info on this race can be found here.
