Downhill MTB Team Camp Recap

This past weekend the Cycling BC Downhill Team joined the C4 crew and Provincial Downhill Coach Cory Leclerc in Squamish and North Vancouver for the first DH training camp of 2016.

It was an amazing weekend complete with on and off the bike fitness tests, skills drills, as well as DH shuttle runs in some pretty gnarly conditions.

Saturday morning consisted of some baseline fitness tests (AMRAP) at Challenge by Choice in Squamish.  After a quick snack, the riders suited up and headed to RIM Cycling Studio where they completed their MAP testing with C4 Alumnus and pro DH Racer Jaime Hill.  The purpose of these tests is to gauge where athletes are at the beginning of the year, through baseline testing. Athletes will be doing regular testing throughout the season to see how they are responding to their training programs.

Being the dedicated group they are, the team was able to do cone drills and skills review on the downhill bikes to wrap up the day.

On Sunday, the team headed to Cypress Mountain in North Vancouver to brave the snow and mud.  With a big group, they rode some of the steepest technical trails Cypress had to offer. The riders, once again, showed us why they are considered some of the finest BC has to offer.

The team will be doing a follow-up to this weekend’s test in one months times to check on their progress.

Overall a great weekend was had by all, with lots of laughs and hard work. Coach Cory was proud of them all and had this to say:

Working with the Cycling BC DH Team has always been a pleasure, and this weekend it was clear to me that British Columbia will be a major threat at any and all events they attend in 2016.
