Second Week Kicks off for iRide Field Trips

Cycling BC’s iRide Schools and Community Program entered the 2nd week of its 2015 campaign Monday with a trip for class #2 to TaG Cycling, from North Vancouver school, Norgate Elementary. With 15 students in attendance, our split groups were small and effective, enjoying an optimal coach athlete ratio. Our off-bike agility session enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather with an outdoor session. With great enthusiasm and energy shown by the students, there was no doubt about it, they were at TaG Cycling to ride!

Led by two-time Olympian Lesley Tomlinson, students enjoyed a 30 minute session on the bikes. The lesson plan included high cadence practice, experiencing first-hand the effect an increased cadence has on power output using their CycleOps power meters, a standing drill for a prize and a cyclocross dismount-remount exercise that gets everyone on and off the bikes.

This program is part of iRide’s diverse set of 2015 initiatives, which include FREE outdoor programming throughout the province in a 4 session format, as well as 4 different indoor facility field trips offered once per class for limited time during the winter months. Our 2015 field trips include TaG Cycling (North Vancouver), Catalyst Kinetics (Burnaby / New Westminster), Burnaby Velodrome (Burnaby / Vancouver) and Abbotsford BMX (Abbotsford).
