Event Sanctioning

with Cycling BC

As a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) and governing body, one of Cycling BC’s key roles is to support and regulate cycling events by establishing a framework for which events and competitions take place, ensuring that they are safe, fair, and adhere to established rules and regulations set by Cycling BC, Cycling Canada, or the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

Why sanction with Cycling BC?
By sanctioning an event with Cycling BC, organizers ensure that the event meets minimum safety standards and provides a high-quality experience for participants. Organizers also benefit from an organized competition framework, general liability insurance, event promotion and inclusion on Cycling BC’s events calendar, access to single-event licences (insurance) for participants without a Cycling BC licence, assigned commissaires for competitions, event eligibility for upgrades points, access to certificates of insurance, and more.

For more information about event sanctioning with Cycling BC, please contact Cycling BC’s Event Operations Team (cj@cyclingbc.net).

Please note: Event organizers must hold a current Cycling BC technical licence and affiliate with Cycling BC to sanction an event.

NEW FOR 2025:

  1. According to USA Cycling (USAC) regulations, non-UCI Race license holders must purchase a Single-Event License to compete in BC events. Only UCI Race License holders may compete across international borders but must sign Cycling BC’s online liability waiver (included in the out-of-province registration rule integrated with CCNBIKES Event Registration) or available at cyclingbc.net/waiver.
  2. Single-event license purchases and event registration close at least two business days before the competition (e.g., 11:59 pm on Wednesdays for a Saturday start).

Grassroots 100:

  • This option is for events with fewer than 100 total participants.
  • No commissaires (race officials).
  • No upgrade points are available.
  • Riders are self-seeded.
  • Race categories may vary from Cycling BC and Cycling Canada standards, although aligning categories is encouraged for consistency.
  • CCNBikes event registration is strongly encouraged for administrative purposes.

  • Single-event licences are available for non-Cycling BC members (Non-Canadians receive liability only).
  • Preview the Grassroots 100 Plus Agreement.

A, AA, AAA Competitions:

  • These options are for competitions that group riders by ability or age categories.
  • Upgrade points are available.
  • Commissaires (race officials) assigned by Cycling BC and/or Cycling Canada*
  • Adhere to Cycling BC’s standardized Race Rules

Organizers using a registration platform other than CCNBikes are responsible for verifying that all participants have the appropriate race licences or have signed our online waiver.
  • Athletes can participate in any category of an A-level event by purchasing a Single-Event License (SEL). However, Single-Event licenses only provide access to Novice/Open categories at AA and AAA-level events.

Extras:

To help encourage prospective members to participate in Cycling BC-sanctioned events, we provide two options based on the event type.

Mass-Participation Events:

  • Prospective members sign the Cycling BC liability release waiver via Interpodia’s CCNBIKES platform and as such, receive Liability Coverage during their participation in the event.
  • There is NO FEE COLLECTED from prospective members. As a result, Sports Accident coverage is NOT activated.
  • Event Organizers will be charged post-event based on the number of non-Cycling BC members.
    • NEW FOR 2025, non-members include non-licensed participants and participants with any type of license from another province/country.

Education and Competition Events:

Prospective members can purchase a maximum of 3 Single-Event Licenses (SEL) per calendar year ($25/event for adults, $5/event for youth). Since there is a fee collected through this process, both Sports Accident and Liability Coverage are active during the prospective member’s participation in the event.  Learn more at cyclingbc.net/single-event.
