Para-cyclists have once more demonstrated their savoir-faire in front of the Danish crowd gathered at the 2011 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships presented in Roskilde (DEN). On this second day of competition, the time trial was still on the program.
Absent from the medal ranking at the end of the first day, Canada bounced back and claimed no less than three World titles. The pair formed by Robbi Weldon (B) and Lyne Bessette (PLT) started the winning strike. The ones who earned the second spot last year can now rejoice in the fact that they finally got their hands on the title that then slipped through their fingers. Their compatriots Shelley Gauthier (T1) and Marie-Ève Croteau (T2) also reached the highest step of the podium by signing the best chrono of their class.
Italian Andrea Tarlao (C5), American Allison Jones (C2) and French Quentin Aubague (T1) all repeated their last Worlds’ performance and therefore kept their rainbow jersey.
Authors of a third place in 2010, Italians Ivano Pizzi (B) and Luca Pizzi (PLT) claimed the victory this time. Winners of their respective class, Romanian Carol-Eduard Novak (C4) and German Hans-Peter Durst (T2) were also crowned champion.
The competitions will continue tomorrow on the Island of Zealand, where the road races will begin and go on until Sunday, closing day of these Worlds.
