The motion to amend membership fees was made in order to preserve the quality of coverage that all Cycling BC members receive under the existing Cycling BC insurance program and in anticipation of rising insurance premiums due in part to the number of sport accident claims that have been made by Cycling BC members over the past few years.

As a reminder, Cycling BC’s Ride Accident insurance has two components:

  1. Top up (over and above members’ personal insurance) rehab coverage for injuries incurred while riding a bicycle 24/7 in North America.
  2. A “broken bone” portion, providing a cash payout for broken bones sustained while riding a bicycle anywhere in North America.

In addition, Cycling BC members are covered with General Liability insurance while participating in all Cycling BC sanctioned or approved cycling events and activities. The General Liability insurance is designed to protect a person against legal responsibility arising out of a negligent act, or failure to act as a prudent person would have acted, which results in bodily injury or property damage to another party. Even if you are not negligent in your actions, legal costs and compensatory damages that may be awarded can be covered by this insurance, subject to the limits and conditions of the policy. Transferring your risk to an insurance policy provides you with the opportunity to ride in your events and club rides with peace of mind.

Cycling BC has also negotiated competitive rates on optional bike insurance for its members, covering the physical loss or damage to bikes during training and sanctioned events. This is the third year that the bike insurance program has been made available to members.

In addition to the value-added services, benefits, training and development opportunities provided to members, Cycling BC strives to grow the sport of cycling in BC by supporting coach certification programs, commissaire training, youth cycling participation through iRide in-school, after-school, camps, and high-performance athlete development programs that provide coaching, training, and competitive racing opportunities for young riders aspiring to reach the highest levels of the sport.

The impact of your Cycling BC membership is far-reaching and is vital to the growth of cycling in BC. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Cycling BC’s Annual Memberships for 2021 will be available in early December via CCN.
